Dear Parent

The Juniors Program offers many forms of support to children at the age they need it the most. Many personality traits are formed at this time and will likely become permanent. This is a critical age and you intend to give your child (which will soon become a teenager) the best possible guidance. We at the Warriors of Grace Karate are fully committed to help you with this very daunting task. Every day, your child is struggling with thoughts like:

  • “I’m not as smart as John.”
  • “I don’t get what my teacher is saying.”
  •  “This class is too hard, I can't do it.”
  • “Why does Paul keep making fun of me?”
  • “How come I can’t be as popular as Jessica?”

Believe me, I understand the desperation that comes with trying to teach vital “Character Skills” to your child. To teach them self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities. It’s not easy. You are trying your best to lay a proper foundation for the growth of your child, but it is a hard road to walk alone. You know that if you don’t succeed, a whole host of more serious problems may await you. We at Warriors of Grace believe Karate to be an extraordinary effective tool in handling these issues. If offers many, many, many advantages:

Positive Role Models: The biggest ‘asset’ of Warriors of Grace Karate? Easy. The instructors. Kids, especially nowadays, need “heroes”, “role models” and “mentors”. Now, I’ll tell you upfront, they are not like the teachers you’ve seen in the Martial Arts movies. Are they “tough”? – Yes. But what you will notice (and so will your child) is that they are “Nice”. IOGKF is an organization that strives to only certify instructors only after extremely grueling requirements. The instructors are required not only to understand Karate to an extremely high level of detail, but also to have the character/personality of a teacher. IOGKF and Morio Higaonna Sensei are renowned for their very high standard placed upon instructors and these “teaching rights” can be quickly stripped. All of our teachers are students and undergo continuing education on how to be a great teacher and role model. They care about each student individually and are totally committed to helping your child reach his or her full potential and more.

Physical Fitness: It’s hard to feel good about yourself when you are out of shape physically…or when your athletic skills have not been fully developed. Obesity and inactivity are major problems today. Its biggest toll may be on our children’s self esteem. Karate is the great equalizer. It gives back 10x times whatever we put in it. When a student feels their physical skills skyrocket…it’s not long before their self-image follows suit!

A High Energy, Exciting Environment: Many children have grown accustomed to virtual activities (video games, computers, television, the internet). Participating in an exciting, high energy environment, focused on an actual activity, will give your child a very real sense of achievement!

A Proven System of Skill Development: No fancy theories or hard to understand concepts here. Our teaching staff are experts in teaching the actual SKILLS of listening and focus. These skills will be present from day 1.

A Series of Positively Constructed Challenges that will build your child’s confidence. You will be delighted as you see your child confidently move outside of their comfort zone. Face their fears and self doubts. Their self imposed limitations. To fight the fear of failure. Everybody fails at some point or another, but it’s the persistence that makes us overcome it. Think about this: a karateka training for 10 years will have done more than ONE MILLION PUNCHES and more than HALF MILLION KICKS!! And always striving to kick/punch better in the next one. Now that’s PERSISTENCE! As the weeks go by, you will smile with pride as she moves from challenge to challenge…their confidence soaring at each new accomplishment!

An Atmosphere of Respect: Courtesy and Respect are and will always be the first lesson in karate. You will watch with satisfaction as your child learns to give respect and to earn respect from others. More importantly, they learn the essential lessons of Self-Respect!

Order and Structure: Even though the atmosphere is friendly and supportive, Martial Arts is not “play time”. They will learn to work hard and strive for excellence in everything they do. They will understand that to achieve results, they must work hard and be persistent. The structure also teaches the kids how to act in an organized group as “this is the color of my sash, this is my position in the dojo, I have this knowledge and these rights, but I also have these responsibilities. I am a friend of everybody here, but I also understand that there are people above me and people below me. I must be respectful of those who teach me and help those who are younger, help them as I have been helped”

Think this karate stuff might just be what you are looking for? Are you wondering if this might actually WORK?! Then give us a chance to find out and stop by the Dojo at 516 Shaw Court Severn, MD 21144. Come and talk with other parents, talk with the instructors, ask whatever you feel like asking!
