What does love have to do with it?

Avery popular song in 1984 by Tina Truner asked the question, “what does love have to do with it?” And the answer was, “a second-hand emotion.”

The song writer was correct, because emotions change from second to second. So how does such a lofty word like love stays true to itself. How do we love our kids after changing a poopy diaper, our they tell us they hate us for making them do something they don’t want to do. Or love our spouses, after love has become a second-hand emotion. The answer is in a much-quoted and cheapened Bible verse, I Corinthians 13:4-7.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[bit does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Nothing is said about emotion. It would be like putting the cart before the horse. The writer of these verses admonishes us in verse 11 by saying:  11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. He is linking acting only emotionally to acting like a child. When was the last time you let your 8-year-old drive you to McDonal’s?

We all fall in love and it is awesome, but living in love is the true test of real love, a forever love.
